Italian helmet manufacturer
Nolan releases its new N-104 flip-up helmet from under $450.00 and
integrated N-Com B4 communications system from less than $380.
Flip-up helmets offer the convenience of an open face helmet with the security and weatherproof features of a full-face lid. Too often, however, the design is something of a compromise, achieving neither with any degree of success. Until now, Nolan claims.
The Italian manufacturer has just announced the arrival of its all-new N-104 flip-up, which is now on sale in Australia from $449.
The new model builds on the brand’s successful N-102 series flip-up lid, but according to the manufacturer is refined to the enth degree.
Nolan’s Smartlift jaw opening system operates via a simple, one-handed latch that is twice as secure as previous models for improved crash protection. The opening is specifically designed to offer improved aerodynamics when raised, thanks to a new elliptical pivot system.
The helmet also utilises a multi-density EPS styrene liner Nolan says provides “optimum shock absorption and disbursement”. The daylight opening is wider to enhance lateral vision while Nolan’s Air Booster dual-stage in/outlets feed multiple ventilation paths for improved warm weather comfort.
N-104 models also feature an internal visor protection system (INTERNAL VPS) Nolan says is treated with scratch resistant and anti-fog treatments. A convenient tinted Lexan half-visor also shades the eyes and negates the need for awkward sunglasses – great for those riders who require prescription lenses.
The outer visor offers a quick-release mechanism with multi-point opening and a visor lock that also allows the visor to be cracked a couple of millimetres to assist ventilation or demisting.
The helmet’s Clima-Comfort liner is removable and washable, and treated with anti-bacterial materials Nolan says improve the material’s longevity. The helmet is also supplied with a chin flap for added draught protection, while a Pinlock Anti-Fog insert with silicone seal further assists in the clearing of condensation from the visor.
Optionally, Nolan’s fully-integrated N-Com B4 Bluetooth multi-media/intercom system offers bike-to-bike comms, satellite navigation, phone and music played connectivity via a stereo headset and integrated microphone. It is priced from $379
Nolan offers a five year warranty on the N-104 flip-up helmet which is priced from $449 for solid coloured models (silver, black and lava grey) and $479 for ‘action graphics’ models (white/black/red [pictured], flat black/grey/red). Sizes range from XS to XXL.
