Green Hornet clocked 12,888 km today

I am proud to inform that Green Hornet clocked 12,888 km mileage this morning. May it continue to pull strongly to 128,888 km :)

And the Xena XX6 disc-lock alarm was truly a noisy deterrent that should scare most thieves away!

Saturday, 3/11/12, Errands on Akrapovic and BMC

I have 3 errands to run this Saturday.

1) Meet Ryan at Tropicana to pick up the BMC Italy air filter;
2) Meet Geek at Kota Damansara to send him the Kawasaki windscreen;
3) Install the Akrapovic dB killer and BMC air filter.

The BMC Italy air filter looked identical to DNA, only that the colour was red. It was made in Italy and came with a 2-year warranty from the date of purchase. Good stuff!

Ryan used to be a Ninja 650R biker too, and has since moved on to Versys 650. He explained that the Versys' riding position was more comfortable for long-distance riding, and his brother and friend also rode the Versys. Three's not a crowd here, three's a convoy. It was supposed to be a quick pick-up but as Ryan was a really swell kind of biker whom loved to share his experiences, we ended up chatting for an hour or more.

He complimented the Ninja 650R as a very flickable bike (he bought his 2010 Ninja 650R CKD used at RM30k, installed steel-braided hoses and EBC brake pads, used it for a year before trading it at a bike shop at RM23k for the Versys 650) and showed me some sleek cornering moves; which I started practicing on my way back. I'm glad I dealt with Ryan- it's another sale-turned-friend scenario. Good meeting you, bro!

Next, I dropped by Geek's house to send him the windscreen; as he had wanted to collect it for a few nights now but had been held back by the constant rain. It was great catching up with him and to check out the Racing Boy clip-on handles that he recently installed. He was still trouble-shooting the clearance issues so he can't yet make u-turns at this point in time. Best to choose your route carefully then so as to avoid u-turns, bro :)

I wanted to install the air filter at Kangkang but the shop was packed. So the seat came off, the tools came out, and it was adventure time to get the petrol tank off so that the BMC air filter could do its stuff to further increase the Green Hornet's performances. This was still on-going even as I type. The supplied BMC sticker was the easy bit though. Alto took the chance to tighten the rear suspension to the highest level.

The installation of the dB killer on the Akrapovic was a breeze though. The exhaust notes were immediately less boomy amd bassy.

Keep your eyes peeled at this space, for the OTR review of the BMC Italy air filter.

Test Market : Kawasaki ER6F/Ninja 650R

Out of a moment's insanity streak, I decided to put an advert for the Green Hornet on Ferno to gauge if it would pull in some interests. I was thinking that I could use the funds towards a Z800 if it sells. In less than 8 hours, I received a few offers ranging from RM25k (lowballer) to RM33k (alright). Not a bad test result if anything's to go by. Unfortunately, I decided not to sell as this baby is pretty close to my heart so we'll see how...

Fined : No Helmet

Chillbike

A naked biker in Romania was pulled over and booked because she wasn’t wearing a helmet. Nothing was said about her being naked though.

A Romanian policeman had a bit of a strange day out on the beat, after he flagged down and pulled over a motorcyclist who had something unexpected riding pillion – a naked woman. Even though it’s a grainy photo we can make out that the passenger is fairly good looking. Always a plus when public nudity is involved.

The woman wasn’t wearing a tread of clothes but the traffic cop couldn’t do a thing about it. As he’s a traffic cop he could only issue the woman with a ticket form not wearing her helmet, and nothing else. As you can see from this photo doing the rounds on Twitter (we had to censor it a bit) the woman has literally no shame.

After graciously accepting her ticket the naked woman finally put her helmet back on and continued on her journey, still starkers.
“The officer was a traffic cop and the only traffic offence she’d committed was in not wearing a helmet,” one witness told Romanian media.

“So he gave her a warning and a ticket and told her and her companion to ride on,” they added.

Thought : Kawasaki Z800 Booking

Readers would know that one of my neighbours had been very keen to take-over my Green Hornet with all of its accessories at his offer price of RM37k. I have been reluctant to sell this baby off because a lot of time, effort and monies have been spent to make her the terrific machine that she is now. Not to mention that it's virtually impossible to get a CBU Japan bike like her these days, with all the CKD programmes implemented.

Well, he asked for my advice if he should go for the Kawasaki Z750 then; afterwhich he would modify along the same lines as my Green Hornet. I told him to set aside RM10k for the accessories ie Akrapovic exhaust, MRA Germany windscreen, Shogun sliders, BMC air filter, radiator protector, Givi Italy side panniers, Givi Italy topbox, Acumen UK gear indicator, etc.

Then the news of the Kawasaki Z800 being CKD at RM48k came along, and I opined that it may be the time for him to take the plunge if he is really interested. And he's made his booking for the Z800, pending delivery. Seems that there's a big waiting list building up.

I must say that I am also slightly tempted to go for the Kawasaki Z800 too. Hmmm, let's see how things develop.

Sold : Nolan N104 N-Com Action/Black

Readers may know that I have procured the Nolan N104 N-com modular helmet from my postings at
http://kawasakier6.blogspot.com/2012/10/latest-acquisition-nolan-n104-modular.html and
http://kawasakier6.blogspot.com/2012/10/follow-up-review-nolan-n104-modular.html.

This has been one of the more comfortable and nice helmets in my possession, and I have worn it for only 3 times todate- no thanks to the rainy season in Kuala Lumpur these days. And when I wore it, it was with my Oxford Coolmax Balaclava so the helmet remains nice and fresh.

As all of my helmets seem to be in black colour, my spouse has asked me to procure a high-visibility helmet for additional safety. I am therefore, getting a Nolan N104 N-Com Voyage/Yellow helmet.

Anyone interested in getting the Nolan N104 N-com Action/Black (L-size) is welcomed to e-mail me, with a phone no. Preferably deal at Mont Kiara area so that you could check how just how nice and fresh this helmet really is. Do bring your own balaclava though for testing.

At RM950 nett, it is really a steal of a price. Full package. Go on, e-mail me right away!

Review : Oxford UK Coolmax Balaclava @ RM80

Most helmets come with some form of technical lining that wicks away moisture - Unfortunately conventional cotton balaclava’s and other natural fibres’ hold on to moisture and keeping it  close to your skin. This renders that high tech helmet lining useless and leaves you with a sweaty, uncomfortable head after a good ride.

CoolMax Fabric wicks sweat away from your skin so you are dry, comfortable and able to concentrate -  CoolMax Balaclavas compliments the helmet lining and allows it to do it’s job better in keeping you dryer!
  • Ultra thin balaclava, avoids stretching your crash helmets lining.
  • Fully universal and reversible.
  • Flat seam for total comfort.
  • One size fits all.
The CoolMax series keeps you cool when it is hot, and warm when it is cold. At RM80, this is definitely a good buy to keep your head fresh and your helmets from sweat and stink!
