During the initial launch, Malaysians could only get the Kawasaki ER6 in its original CBU form. That said, while the prices were naturally higher given its CBU production the quality was at par with its higher pricing too.
To check if your ER6 is a CBU or CKD unit, please refer to your Motor
Registration Card. I was informed by shops to note if the status written
therein is "Kenderan Import Baru", then you have purchased a real solid
CBU while the status "Pemasangan Tempatan" would denote a CKD version. Idling and vibration on the CBU bikes were said to be smoother and quieter, reflected by the higher engineering that went into these machines.
Prices of the the ER6 were revised downwards as its manufacturing was transferred from overseas to locally, and as its demand increases which secured the economies of scale as per the following :
CBU CKD
ER6-N : RM46k RM37k
Versys : RM47k RM38k
ER6-F : RM48k RM38k
In fact, at a certain point, the waiting time and volume of buyers for the ER6 was said to be higher than its bread-and-butter Ninja 250 model.
